Fancy Dress du jour!

I just love walking into museum gift shops and seeing jewelry that is inspired from historical portraits. So I am really loving these outfits and accessories that have been inspired from 18th century fashion!!

Vivian, of Candy Violet, has put out a line of fashion called Visions of Versailles which features pieces that are inspired from some fabulous tarts and femmes of the 18th century. Her creations combine the styles and shapes from the 18th cent. and modernized them for 21st century debutants!

My favorite pieces? I love the hats! It is almost race track season making it the perfect time for me to be thinking about hats....as if they never cross my mind...! I hope she puts more out in this line!

  2. Gorgeous! I'm off to check out the rest of the stuff. I wish I could find someone who makes 18th century wear for men. I'd love a frock coat and knee high britches.

    Thanks for this post.

  4. They are all very cute but I am partial to the hats, I feel like I would get most use out of them and they are also priced well!

Yes, me too! anyone would like to put 18th century clothes for men, including hats!!! I really want the hat that Simon Baker wore on The Affair of the Necklace. It's on the Swan boat scene. I find really nice...

  7. Of course I want it all, but I long for the Princess Tricorn in Insipid Pink. I've always liked the bicorn or tricorn look on both sexes and think it's sweet as well as smart. Thanks for finding another way to spend money! (Someone's gotta do it.)

In response to YSLGuy, Lauren posted a French (I think) site here ages ago that does very fine specialty clothing for ladies and gentlemen, but it was very pricey. I can't recall the name of the company, but maybe someone else here will. And of course, if you're fortunate enough to be on the UK side of the Atlantic, I'm sure there are several places to get good men's clothes, London or perhaps even Bath. I've been to Bath several times and there are always men in 18c attire. Hotcha!

  8. @ Polonaise - hmm are you thinking of Reine des Centfeuilles? They create frocks for men!!

Now I am tempted to go to Bath...

  9. Yes, that is the site. Their garments are even more fabulous than I remember.

Bath is always a good choice and the Jane Austen festival is a great excuse: educational!

How fun to see this on here! I love the lolita fashion style, and Candy Violet's lolita interpretations of some 18th century gowns are certainly praise worthy. Her Marie Antoinette gown is probably my favorite MA-inspired lolita gown that I've seen!

  11. Oh, how adorable! These dresses are so unbelievably cute and I love the modern interpretation of the 18th century and I'm so tempted to get one of the cheaper (ha ha, if $175 can be considered cheap D:) rococo-inspired dresses.
