Hans Maler, Anne of Bohemia and Hungary, Queen of Austria. 1520. The Netherlands, Private Collection.
Queen Anna was Marie Antoinette's 7th great grandmother on her father's side. Can you spot any resemblance? I am loving the owl on her pendant and I would wear that garment this winter.
I love everything about this image. When was it painted? It could be poster art from the late 1800s it has such clear graphic appeal and simplicity.
ReplyDeleteI believe this was done in 1520 or somewhere very near there. She would have been about 17.
ReplyDeleteI love the little owl too:)
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous and I can definitely see a resemblance. I'm really taken with the owl, too.
ReplyDeleteMe Too! I love this pic! She seemed so modern of her time! Love It!
ReplyDeleteShe's got the Hapsburg lip!
ReplyDeleteI give it a yay. The hat is a little freaky but I like the pattern of the dress. The necklace is the best.
ReplyDeletelol yes the hat is doing a fabulous trick with gravity, especially with that heavy jewel on the back!
ReplyDeleteDo you know, I feel like I can see a resemblance? Or is that just the way of portraits?
ReplyDeleteTulip: @MarieGossip I like your Queen Anna post, but what is that black thing on top of her cap? It looks very strange if it's a hat.
ReplyDeleteIt is a hat! It was en vouge to wear the hat over a coverchief, in this case she has a very pretty gold coverchief with a pattern, the hat sits on top. Sometimes these hats were leather but I do not know what Anna's was made of!
I need to look more into this style. If anyone has info on it let us know! ~Lauren
And the little dog is fierce!
