Vigée LeBrun, Elisabeth-Louise. Madame d'Aguesseau de Fresnes, 1789. Oil on wood. The National Gallery of Art.
From the collection of the National Gallery of Art, this portrait is of Madame d'Aguesseau de Fresnes adorned in a very exotic dress which recalls the styles of the Turkish and Greek. I particularly enjoy her buckle and earrings.

Hi Lauren, I love the Art work on your blog. On my new blog "Dolls From the Attic" I am trying to show samples of dolls through the centuries and couple them with the history of the times they were created by way of works of Art. I try to find pictures mostly of children and families of the different eras with toys/dolls. Marie Antoinette will be included on one of the posts. She liked the Mechanical dolls and music boxes. I would love for you to visit my blog sometime.
ReplyDeletePetite thing with tons of hair...very modern in that way
ReplyDeleteI've seen that one in person! It's breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteWasn't that Louis XVI's younger sister?
ReplyDelete@MadameP It does look like Louis' sister! I just checked the NGA site and they have it listed as Madame d'Aguesseau de Fresnes, which differs from my first search; the title I had found was Portrait of a Lady. hmm...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Vigee LeBrun's portraits have such life and charm in them!
