I posted close up images so you could see the details better! Now, which piece do you prefer and why? What would you have in your château??
Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené, Louis-François Chatard, Armchair . French, 1788, walnut, gold, cotton twill, silk. The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Georges Jacob, (upholstery style of: Philippe de Lasalle, Armchair, French. 1780-85,
Carved and gilded walnut, covered in embroidered silk-satin. The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
I prefer the rather busty choice #1; I'm a sucker for the simple white fabric. Tres chic!
ReplyDeleteThe white is lovely, to be sure, but the second one would fit in very well as a conversation piece just inside my livingroom.
ReplyDeleteI like the lighter colors of the fabric in the 1st one. But the details of the chair in the 2nd are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Heather!
ReplyDeleteI like the first one better. I like that it is white. I also like the design better on it.
ReplyDeleteThe white one is very pretty, but it would never do for my guests.
ReplyDeleteThere is always champagne spilling and food being dropped. I would go with colors for just that reason!
I love the 2nd chair it's much simpler it can go with anything
ReplyDeleteI agree with @Heather, besides what are those egyptian figures incrusted in the first chateau?? I think they are completly out of topic.
ReplyDeleteI like the Chatard one. It's more ornate and elegant, I think.
ReplyDeleteBoth are beautiful, but I like the second one better. Even though the embroidery is more ornate, I think lines of it seem a bit more comfortable. Very elegant.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the #1 chair camp. Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the second one because it would hide dirt better. But, then, I guess all of the servants would keep it in pristine condition, wouldn't they?
ReplyDeleteNow that I revisit them... I could put them to use in different rooms for various reasons... like taking tea or gossiping!
