Boucher's The Interrupted Sleep caught my eye while passing through the museum...
François Boucher spent his early career studying the works of Watteau, and he was part of a group of engravers that worked on a catalogue raisonné of his work titled, The Work of Antoine Watteau,Painter of the King and His Royal Academy, engraved after his paintings and original drawings. You can view the digitized monograph online, the original book lives in the Bibliothèque de l'Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art.
The Interrupted Sleep was originally was displayed at Madame de Pompadour's Château de Bellevue. Imagine all the people this painting has seen, or all that have seen this painting!

Lovely. Thank you for the link. Very interesting Watteau images. I have a few of them framed in my guest room, and wasn't sure of the artist. I was thinking Pillement.
